Humphrey CMGT/554 IT Infrastructure October 8, 2012 LaShanda Perry Ensuring Patton-Fuller Community Hospitals’ Patient Privacy With any information system, information security needs to be taken into consideration simply for the fact that information is a commodity that has value, either monetary or for mischief and Patton Fuller Community Hospitals’ information is no exception. Information resources are distributed throughout an organization and beyond because Internet and wireless technologies extend and connect organizational boundaries. Patton Fuller is a plethora of information systems and information data traffic flowing between their different information systems. In the ward floors, ICU and OR, as an example, the use of Cisco wireless access points is used (Ward Floor Systems, 2011). These access points are made available at ward locations for use by staff and patients. Hospital staff using laptops and wireless carts for nursing mobility can access patient records, order medical supplies or transfer x-rays and other digital file information between departments. Patients can use wireless devices so they can stay connected to the Internet while under the hospitals care (Apollo Group, Inc., 2011). Patton Fuller Community Hospital’s current web portal incorporates both a combination of e-commerce and e-business which consist of department to department data transfers. It can be assumed that Patton Fuller uses the Ethernet to also perform electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, Internet marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), inventory management, automated data collection, and also incorporate e-mail, mobile devices and telephones as well (nb2bc.co.uk, 2012).
