The prerequisite to start a career in accounting is a university degree of business and commerce with a major in accounting. You’ll start as an assistant accountant or financial analyst, and then you’ll move up to a management or cost accountant, then senior management or a higher level of a cost accountant, finance manager… financial controller which is equivalent to a vice president of a company, then the highest level in accounting is a financial director or chief financial officer, which is equivalent to a CEO. This table shows the annual income for an accountant. You will start with $40 000 to $45 000 a year. The income depends on how big the company is that you work for. After you get promoted, you can get paid lots of money. Once you get your 4th promotion (which is vice president) you will earn $110 000 to $200 000, plus bonus and share options. When you get your 5th promotion (where you are a CEO or in a related position) you earn $180 000 to $400 000 and beyond with bonus, shares and share options. Patricia Ann Woertz studied a degree in the bachelor of Science in Accounting at the Pennsylvania State University, which awarded her its highest recognition for alumni in 1974. After studying her degree at university, Patricia started her career as an accountant with Ernst and Young from 1974 until 1977. Ernst and Young today, is one of the top four accounting firms.
