Patagonia is a clothing and outdoor gear company that was established in 1972 by Yvon Chiunard. #A. As a young entrepreneur, Yvon traveled and fell in love with a remote and desolate region in the south of South America. Forgotten and breathtaking; this area was Patagonia; Yvon named his company after the region and over time developed his company into the most environmentally conscious retail company in the world. Patagonia started the 1% For The Planet in 2002 #B; in doing so, Patagonia led the way for major corporations to contribute into the increasingly important issue of environmental conservation. Patagonia currently invests millions of dollars annually to conservation groups and additionally has inter groups that work to save lands, practices, hunting methods, and rights of natives worldwide. Among the many projects Patagonia is currently involved in is the conservation and protection of the very namesake of the company itself, Patagonia. Patagonia is a company that allows and encourages employees to take part in a series of small trips aimed at helping the cause to Patagonia first-hand. To date, about fifty have traveled in groups of six to Chilean Patagonia- the company’s namesake- to spend three weeks digging out fence posts, rolling up wire, and removing nonnative plants from the area.
