The families there have fun going to the special event in church. After they went to Misa de Galo, the great dinner begins. There is chicken or roasted turkey with rice and salad typically for dinner. Pupusas and tamales can be served as well. Their beverages are soda, wine, beer, and horchata.
They celebrate New Year’s Eve with barbecues, and fireworks, they also eat a spoonful of lentil for luck, and carry money in their pockets for adventure and riches. They celebrate Easter by having huasos accompany the priests.
Ashton Galloway BIB-105 3/6/2011 Dr. Coleman Baker The kingdom of God is often described in parables and metaphors, and is often revealed to some of the most common people. Every day God gives each of us life experiences and beauty all around to give us clues as to what His kingdom is like. These clues are revealed in nature, humanity, and everyday life experiences. Since I am a songstress and I also enjoy a good meal, I will elaborate on a choir and a good meal, describing how they can metaphorically be used to describe the kingdom of God. In her article, “The Kingdom of God is like…” Kim Tame depicts a music teacher comparing the kingdom of God to that of teaching music to a children’s choir.
Walking into Nonna’s house smelling homemade sugo(pasta sauce) being dumped onto the fresh pasta she had probably made that very day was the best! On the table was chicken cutlets, salad, rapine, and so many other dishes along with tutto la familia(The whole family) I remember having to kiss everyone two times on the cheek, I didn’t understand this then but as I got older, I realised the importance of the kissing on the cheeks. After a big lunch, my Zio Stefano brought out a cake and everyone sang to me, they brought me gifts and I hold dear to me the gift I received from my mother. She had given me a necklace that was my great grandmothers. At that moment I didn’t care for it until I later learned that it was a necklace passed down from generation to generation.

This holiday helps give gratitude to the group of Jews who believed in their right to religious freedom. Hanukkah is a festive family occasion that is celebrated each night with special foods eating, singing of prayers, playing games, and joyous songs are played. One candle is lit on the first night of Hanukkah, two on the second, and so on, until all eight candles are lit. The light represents a symbol, being the strength of God. Most foods prepared are fried in oil; this is symbolic of the oil that lasted eight days in the temple.
I come from rosaries and hand made tortillas. Waking up every day in the summer to the smell of roasted crushed peppers on the molcajete filling the air and roosters screeching is what has influenced me to take such pride in where I come from. Spending each and every one of my summers since the age of five in Mexico, learning and getting in touch with my roots. Learning and experiencing what it was like for my parents, my grandparents, and ancestors has helped me appreciate where I come from a lot more. When surrounded by family and having such strong faith in God, there is always someone there to help you and guide you.
Thanksgiving Thanksgiving is a celebration of life, a festival of gratitude! In my home, Thanksgiving is a precious time when my family gets together and the women share the kitchen cooking and bonding over an extravagant meal. The men gather together in the den and connect on a deeper level over a spirited football game, cheering and cursing at the television screen. The children play games and run through the house. Thanksgiving is a time when the house can come truly alive.
