Taekwondo had been my passion since primary one. It was all due to watching too much of Chinese kung-fu drama that has gotten me hyped up about martial arts. Another pushing factor for me to participate actively in taekwondo is because of my cousin who has already achieved a black belt and his awesome kicks and punches that has gotten me all gaga about taekwondo. Ever since then, I have been actively training up in the sport. Although it is not easy to maintain a passion for it, I have often been encouraged by friends and my family. They are my counterparts who train together with me in taekwondo and will never fail to pay me a visit every time I miss training to help me stay active in taekwondo. Their will to go to the extra mile has not been wasted, and along with them, I have attained a black belt now. However, the road in front is still long. With more competitions to train up for and more juniors to teach, I am constantly kept busy. But every effort that I have put in is worth it. Whenever the Singapore Taekwondo federation organises competitions, I would often participate in them along with my friends. Through many sparring competitions, I have learned the importance of fair play. Only through fair play, will you gain respect from everyone including your opponent. This value I learned, however, did not come easy. Three years ago, during the finals of the national sparring competition, I had resorted to hiding my opponent’s knee and arm guards all because he was known to be a very fearsome opponent. This had caused him not to be able to play all offensive, giving me the advantage. However, some of his friends had witnessed my actions and had told him about it. The competition commenced.
