Critical reflection-Parenthood Movie
Life is not as easy as we wanted it to be, is has obstacles everywhere we look , but if we learn to
deal with them life could be pleasant for anybody. The movie “Parenthood” is a movie that even as a
comedy shows struggles that everybody has even when their smiling. The movie has at least one
character that we can relate to ,ranging from the black sheep of the family, the nerd, the dad that wants
to be perfect, the wanted child, the unwanted child and all sort of personalities. The movie is mostly
based on a family containing four generations. Each sub family deals with its own problems and every
member of the family grows as a whole, making the movie one of its kind.
The movie deals with a lot of parents and children, that each is going through a stage in the
development of their personalities. The “black sheep” of the family is in his mid 20's and represents a
frustrated person that hasn't done anything for his life, but at the same time is the favorite one among
dad, then there is Gil's older son who has being overcrowded with attention and as a result it begins to
isolate from people, and last there is the 16 year old girl that wants to do what she likes no matter what
her mom thinks or do. This movie shows that even an almost perfect family has problems that in the
outside we can't really see but if you get to know the person you realize that everybody has needs that
need to be filled. What interest me the most about this movie is that any person can relate to this, and
that it affects us on our every day life, problems that will helps us mature, and problems that will helps
us grow in relationship to other people. I personally can relate to the girl that wants to do her own
thing, because when I was 16 and got my license and I was nowhere to be found all because I wanted
freedom, freedom that made me a better person.
