My Response: Yes, I think ads are effective towards teens because you see teens making choice or buying things based off of what they saw from the ad. Especially, when a celebrity is advertising the product that they want to purchase it makes them want that item even more. Ads in today’s society are not that ethical. They are trying to sell their product to everyone not just to a specific type
Also, if parents smoke or drink, their children are more likely to choose to smoke or drink because they would regard smoking or drinking as a normalcy and because they have seen it every day. Just as how parents influence us, celebrities can also influence our choices of lifestyle. Since celebrities are often in the public media, we are able to know a lot of information about them, positive or negative. The influence from parents and the influence from celebrities are both shown through people’s imitation of them. Human beings are talented in mimicking.
Teenagers adapt to their surroundings in order to live, and in a non conventional sense, reproduce. The adaptations they have to make are a little different, however in a sense, it does include shedding one's skin and growing a new, possibly tougher one. High school students have to adapt to socially constructed levels; height, sexuality, weight, grades, social life, socio-economic standards, the list goes on. In essence, they survive by changing themselves, whether for better or for worse. For most teenagers, school is as much a popularity contest as it is an opportunity to further one's education, maybe even more so.
Teen-Parent Communication About Sex When young people feel unconnected at home, family, and school, they may become involved in activities that put their health at risk. However, when parents affirm the values of their children, young people often develop positive, healthy attitudes about themselves, therefore delaying in sexual activity. The writer’s purpose(s) for writing these articles is because risky teen behavior is on the rise, and what are parents and families doing/not doing to promote safe behavior? I chose these articles because I am a teen parent, and I feel that if I had been able to have “the talk” sooner, more in depth, and more often, that it may have prevented my pregnancy. Teen Sexuality’s research showed a few things: Adolescents who stated that they were connected with their parents were more likely than other teens to delay sexual intercourse.
It targets the basic needs for kids such as self-esteem, society’s acceptance, and beauty. I feel that the media plays a part why young men choose to use steroids, in hopes of being like that famous athlete on television or billboards. I believe the covers of magazines and television may play a part in young girls who develop eating disorders and even drug use. It is almost as if the media teaches children and teenagers that if ones wear certain shoes and clothes someone will be happy. I feel that our young people will lose their identity and forget what is really important in life.
Thus the child acquires gender. The child may also form some kind of erotic attachment to the parent of the opposite sex. Whilst their understanding of the full sexual act may be questioned, some kind of primitive physical sensations are felt when they regard and think about the parent in question. Jealousies The primitive desire for the one parent may also awaken in the child a jealous motivation to exclude the other parent. Transferring of affections may also occur as the child seeks to become independent and escape a perceived 'engulfing mother'.
For example, beauty school students volunteering for needy friends also for their practice. Second, students’ personality can be affected greatly after he/she volunteers. Some people would be say that it is not volunteering they just doing it by force but they can feel and see how other people need especially, needy friends. Also it is time to get to work with new people so students can make new friends. It can be help students build an upright character and altruism.
For instance, though many parents and guardians look at advertisements as something as simple as a commercial promoting a certain industry, an adolescent may look at it as a possible change in lifestyle. Believe it or not, since its inauguration, advertising is thought by many critics to be the leading cause of health problems among our youth, ultimately causing illnesses such as eating disorders, tobacco consumption, alcohol abuse, and the misuse of prescription drugs. In this day and age, more often than not, young adults, particularly women, are influenced by the media’s standards of beauty in our culture. A long term trend in advertising is the association of certain products with extremely thin, almost skeleton-like female models, promoting a sense of “attractiveness” that young women are encouraged to imitate. When taking a closer look, it is evident that many modern day forms of fashion and cosmetics play on both the insecurities as well as low self-esteem of the individual, by promising the ideal bodily image.
Final Draft The Influence of Mature TV on Adolescents In our society, it is all about keeping up with the Jones’s. Younger and younger children are mimicking and acting like their older counterparts, because they look up to and aspire to be like them. Normally, this is healthy, but not when it is taken too far. Children witness others their age on television acting and dressing more mature then they normally would, so in order to keep up, they mimic the behavior. When they see older siblings doing certain things, they pick up on them and try and mimic their behavior.
Influence of Visual Media University of Phoenix MEDIA AND AMERICAN CULTURE HUM/176 Influence of Visual Media Television has been an avenue to bring families closer together by giving them weekly television shows they can all enjoy together as a family no matter what the difficulty of the day. It has given countless mothers of disconnected teenage girls’ shows they can enjoy together and give them a common show that allows them to connect on some level. It has allowed fathers an outlet to sit and watch sporting events with their sons when they are growing up and it seems like they can find no common ground. Movies have given way to cult following that both children and parents can discover and enjoy together, the phenomena that is Star Wars was a huge hit when most of us were children and we are now sharing with our children and drawing them into our world and widening the cult following. Today’s movie such as Twilight and Lord of the Rings brings both parents and children into current movie series that both parent and child can enjoy first hand together.
