Even though the books were the same type of books that are known today, they were written specifically for children and teaching. These are the some of the first type of children’s books. The books could be extreme in theme, for example James Janeway's A Token for Children: Being an Exact Account of the Conversion, Holy and Exemplary Lives and Joyful Deaths of Several Young Children (1672) The book consisted of multiple deathbed scenes of children who were weak but spiritually strong. Books did not remain overly religious and started appealing to parents who were attracted to economic advancement. With the rise of literacy Children’s books were marketed and geared towards children specifically, thus bringing stories about fairy and folk tales.
Anisha Spellman Benchmark Assessment: Language Arts Unit Plan Grand Canyon University: EED-525 November 27, 2013 “Learning to read and reading to learn” is a quote that one of the schools in my district uses to help motivate reading in all students and their families. I believe reading is an important aspect of all lives. What exactly would the world be like without the reading? It is crucial that we teach this to all of the little children while they are young and trying to learn. The more they practice and the more teachers and parents instill this in their minds, the better they will become.
CYPOP7 PROMOTE CREATIVITY AND CREATIVE LEARNING IN YOUNG CHILDREN 1 UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS OF CREATIVITY AND CREATIVE LEARNING AND HOW THESE AFFECT ALL ASPECTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN’S LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT 1.1 ANALYSE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CREATIVE LEARNING AND CREATIVITY Creative learning is about how children are actively involved in their own learning and ability to make choices and decisions. This can be achieved through providing a creative environment allowing exploration through play and praising creative efforts. We can say that ‘creative learning’ refers to the process of developing the skills of imaginative thinking and problem solving. These skills are used across all of the curriculum areas. Creativity is about risk taking and making connections, allowing children to explore and express themselves through a variety of media or materials including, dance, music, making things, drawing, painting and make believe and to make new things emerge as a result.
It is all about making the contact with others and being understood. There are two types of communication: verbal and non -verbal. Both are equally important. There are a lot of different ways to communicate with a child, including through singing, drawing, painting and imaginative play. Effective communication is very important for variety of reasons: Making relationships – Effective communication helps to create new relationships not only with a child, but with parents, careers and colleagues too.
When one learns new things in life, one will be successful. Whether somebody is a musician, architect, mathematician, teacher, or doctor everyone uses reading as a form of communication and documentation. Reading is everywhere from street signs, to billboards, picture books, magazines, internet sites, and even instruction labels. We can only be successful from reading by learning and studying and expanding our brain to remember more books and key points for tests and everyday life. For example, in the essay “Reading Ourselves and the World Around Us” Alberto Manguel says, “I had seen, over and over again, the letters that I knew were the names of the pictures under which they sat”(5).
As a teacher, I will make sure to broaden my variety of books in the classroom to let my students build their reading list and think outside of the box. L6 ______ 30 pts. Performance Criteria for Required Books IRA/NCATE Standard
Literacy Service Learning Project Kellen Brooks Brandon McHale Mr. Schoenbauer I am doing a literacy service learning project in school to help promote world literacy. I have chosen to help out my local library by saving them the trouble to categorize books for them. Brandon and I are partners for this project and we are hoping it will benefit our library by helping them out. I believe if all of our library books are categorized correctly it will allow people to find their books quickly and more efficiently resulting in the more books being read which will then result in worldwide literacy. The first day of our literacy service learning project we had to choose who we wanted to work with on this project.
These strategies will help me better understand the story I am reading. During Reading During reading “The Rocking-horse Winner” by D. H. Lawrence I use takes cues from the text, make connection and get involved strategies. The cues were italicized and the meaning of how the money was needed was emphasized by this. The connection was with the little boy Paul; he wanted his mom to be proud of him. I want my parents to be proud of me too.
We need to make sure that a range of play opportunities are provided to encourage this, and ensure that we provide materials that are stimulating and attractive, whilst encouraging children to make choices and to take responsibility for their play. Play is fundamental to children’s health, growth, development and over all well being. A child’s brain is stimulated when they play, especially when they have varied and interesting opportunities. Stimulation of the brain is vital for its growth. Play also provides good exercise for most
Francine Prose states, "Traditionally, the love of reading has been born and nurtured in high school English class." I disagree with this statement only because of my own personal experience. My love of reading was stimulated by my own passionate mother who instilled in me from a very early age that reading books frequently is important for any educated individual. I was very startled to find that other children weren't as lucky as me, relying primarily on their school education to teach them how to read and to love reading. By the time that we were in middle school, the majority of my friends felt that reading was a chore and turned their noses up at any books I'd suggested to them.
