The initiator isn’t strictly a catalyst as it is involved in the actual formation (one initiator molecule per ½ polymer molecule). LDPE is used in plastic bags, plastic bottles, and cling
In fact, scientists report that this problem is so serious that virtually all seafood now contains plastic. We’re fast running out of space for landfills—especially near cities. Seaside cities have been dumping trash into their oceans for decades to circumvent the problem, but with widespread marine ecological collapse, this is no longer a viable option. Other things include air pollution from factories. B.
Which include fats, oils, waxes, and cholesterol. They are mostly made up of long chains of monomers. Which is also known as fatty acids. Proteins are polymers made from monomers called amino acids. Which are building blocks of life.
Crystallization from acetone yields the pure compound. Most of the numerous other ether soluble components of nutmeg remain in the acetone solution. Note that triesters of glycerol, such as trimyristin, in which the carboxylic acid portion of the molecule is unbranched and contains 14 or more carbon atoms, are
Each cis double bond causes a kink in the chain, or a bent tail. Most naturally occurring fatty acids have an even number of carbon atoms—12-24. What are the unique structural features of fatty acids? Amphipathic, having a non-polar end and a polar end. Fatty acids consist of a long hydrocarbon "tail“, which is hydrophobic due to nonpolar C-H bonds, attached to a hydrophilic "head" consisting of a carboxyl group.
that had jobs outnumbered the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps by more than a 2 to 1 margin. But now the number of women in the U.S. on food stamps actually exceeds the number of women that have jobs. #3 The U.S. government has spent an astounding 3.7 trillion dollars on welfare programs over the past five years. #4 Today, the federal government runs about 80 different “means-tested welfare programs”, and almost all of those programs have experienced substantial growth in recent years. #5 Back in 1960, the ratio of social welfare benefits to salaries and wages was approximately 10 percent.
When their is a build up of waste can mix in with groundwater and runs offs leading to killing fish and contamination. Several countries such as Japan, Australia, Canada and Europe have all banned the use of antibiotics and hormones on their farms and are still able to produce a healthy meat, in the United States it is legal and therefore used in mass quantities. In factory farming not all animals are free to roam, and able to live a happy life. Chickens can be kept on grass but are crowded in large flocks. They are debeaked or a third of their beak is amputated with a heated blade.
Fast Food Epidemic: America has become the most obese nation in the world. Nearly 100 million Americans have become either overweight or obese. That is more than 60 percent of all U.S. adults. Since the 1980s, the total of over weight Americans has doubled (Spurlock, 2004). Obesity is now only second to smoking that is a major cause of preventable death in Americans which causes more than 400,000 deaths per year.
On Saturdays, I see Boy Scout Troop 99 picking up trash using separate sacks for the bottles and the cans. By noon, their total bottle and can collection for a one-mile radius generally fills about 17 large garbage bags. Obviously, this is proof that these disposable bottles and cans are destroying the beauty of our neighborhoods. Another example I have encountered is the ugliness presented on Highway 66 between Luther and Wellston. Again, it is common to see paper sacks full of bottles and cans thrown to the side of the road.
Humans are responsible for the slaughter of approximately 100 million sharks a year, by longlines, "sport" fishermen or by a murderous practise known as shark finning. Shark finning takes place at sea so the fishermen only have the fins to transport as the shark meat is lower value and is not worth the cost of transporting the bulky bodies. Hooked sharks are roughly hauled onto the boat; their fins hacked and sliced off while they are still alive. The defenseless sharks are then tossed back into the ocean, they slowly sink to the bottom and die an agonizing death, usually as they get eaten alive by other fish. This kind of brutal treatment of sharks is being tolerated all over the world and with 90% of the large shark population already wiped out, sharks are being depleted faster then they can reproduce.
