Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder that cause disturbances in thinking, perception, speech, emotions, and socialization(Durand & Barlow, )people who suffer from schizophrenia are usually not aware of their mental problem because they often cannot see that anything is wrong. people suffer from the disease may hear voices and feel people are arround them when there in no one in reality. they often think that people are trying to control their mind or hurt them. schizophrenia can be diagnosed as early as adolescent and one is less likely to be diagnosed if never have any symptoms during the 25 years of life. schizophrenia is not a rare disorder, in fact 1 in 100 Americans has a schizophrenic episode at least once his or her lifetime. Schizophrenia is mostly caused by a combination of genes and some environmental factors that occur during pregnancy or early development might make some people more vulnerable to schizophrenia. schizophrenia affect men and women at the same rate. people who suffer from schizophrenia have a lower life expectancy compare to the general population because they are more likely to commit suicide or died from accident. Schizophrenic patients tend to abuse alcohol and other drugs. According to the DSM, there are five types of schizophrenia based on the symptoms that one is experienced: paranoid, disorganized, catatonic, undifferentiated, and residual. There are three types of symptoms: positive, negative, and disorganized. Positive symptoms are the more obvious signs of psychosis, include delusion and hallucination. Negative symptoms include avolition, alogia, anhedonia, and affective flattening. Disorganized symptoms include disorganized speech and inappropriate affect and disorganized behavior. the dopamine system is too active in schizophrenic brain, especially D1 and D2. magnetic resonance imaging scans have a shown an enlargement
