Those Hired Girls A normal life, which doesn’t have any great things, still gives us an amazing story. In this novel, My Antonia, Willa Gather presents a group of strong women who embody the spirit of American pioneer. I think the clue of the novel could be Jim. First part starts when Jim and Antonia first met on the train to west. And they have a good childhood.
Chapter 15 from the book “I Knew Why the Caged Bird Sings” “Sister Flowers” 07/20/10 The thesis of the essay is that being educated in school books alone doesn’t translate to intelligence. Maya Angelou wrote in the chapter that, Mrs. Flowers has said to Marguerite, “you must be intolerant of ignorance but understanding of illiteracy. That some people unable to go to school were more educated and even more intelligent than college professors.” Mrs. Flowers then encouraged Marguerite, “to listen carefully to what country people called mother wit.” which means a person needs more than just book smarts to be consider intelligent and to able to use that intelligence to survive in life; a person that has wits though life experiences can be more intelligent than people that just gain knowledge in only school books because the people with wits are more savvy from their social life experiences compare to people that live life educated only though book.
Eulogy for Lennie Smalls For those of you who don’t know me, I am George Milton. Not only was Lennie my best friend, he was like a brother to me, and I to him. Lennie’s aunt Clara was a good friend of mine, so when she passed on, I promised I would look after him. He was the kindest, gentlest soul I had ever met, and he never meant any harm to anything or anyone. He was also known to sometimes find himself in sticky situations; the last of which being when he petted Curly’s wife’s hair a little too violently, but he never wished harm on anyone.
Alireza Pourali Ms.Sbrochi END 2D1 November 22, 2010 The Chrysalids Essay There are some people that they have a better relationship with others that they feel more comfortable than their family. David had a good relationship with Uncle Axel, Aunt Harriet and Mrs.Wender. In the novel “The Chrysalids”, David experiences “mother like” relationship. Firstly, Sophie’s mother is one of the people in the story that is mother-like to David and they have a good relationship with one another. First, when Mrs.Wender tells David that he is a good boy, no one has not ever told him that.
This means that since everyone was hitting and picking on her she didn’t give up. She actually uses the bullies’ offense as her defense. Its quite unique because this is something you don’t see everyday but her grandmother told her to thank the people who called her names. Its a brilliant idea by her grandmother, yes indeed these words were hurtful, but Melba was clever enough not to show it. Doing this will confuse the bullies to thinking that she doesn’t care what they said or thought of her. I chose this book because i actually read this book long ago when I was younger and I decided to expand on my little prior knowledge of this book “Warriors Don’t Cry”.
Although Scout and Katniss share their differences, the similarities between both characters outweigh all differences. Katniss, the narrator of the novel, is a strong, resourceful sixteen year old who is far more mature than her age would suggest. Through many examples, one could recognize that both characters share their similarities along with their differences. Scout from the book “To Kill a Mocking Bird” is a very unusual girl, both in her qualities and in her social position. She is very intelligent for a girl her age, for example, she learned to read before the beginning of school.
But although it is the shortest it is also the most important part, because that is the first time you get a sense on what Biss actually feel. She expresses her own feelings to the subject, and it is also the passage that moves you to Biss’s thoughts and ideas behind the essay. Then she goes on telling the story her dad had passed on to her about her grandfather falling from a telephone pole and breaking his back. The innocent stories from her childhood and how she thought the poles were beautiful. “Now, I tell my sister, these poles, there wires do not look the same to me.
In all I’ve spent about 10 hours riding in his truck, just listening to him talk about his life and what he thinks about my relationship with his daughter. This is a conversation I surely would not have had if I were not riding in his truck. If there was any way to escape, I would have. In the end, though, it is worth the long boring conversations with my girlfriend’s father if it helped get her into a rehabilitation facility and bring her one step closer to becoming a functioning member of society while building a friendship with her
The story is very interesting because she starts off by telling what criple mean to her as a individual. It gets better she rather use the word criple instead of handicap and disable. To the narrator criple is such a strong word rather than hadicapp and disable. This is why she as in referring to the narrator is so offensise to the other words referring to her ability such as disable and hadicap. As the essay progressed she began talking about her childhood.
I chose the story of an hour and Paul’s case. Although, I do not read as much as I used to read before, I really enjoy reading stories books. I found these two stories very interesting because I see Paul’s case and story of an hour every day in our society. Although Mrs. Mallard had a heart trouble condition, she did not receive the bad news about her husband’s death with a paralyzed inability like others do. More than sad, she felt “free, free, free’’.
