The thirty years war was a devastating war that affected much of Europe and rebellions seemingly everywhere that lengthened the atmosphere of disorder and violence. The third phase of the war or the “Swedish phase” marked the entry of Gustavus into the war in 1630. He was a military genius who brought a disciplined and well equipped army into Germany. He taught Europe that a small, efficient, well disciplined army is superior to an armed mob. He considered 40,000 troops the limit of effectiveness.

Destini Young Mrs. Ashby Twelfth Grade English 28 January 2015 Biblical Allusions in Lord of the Flies The Bible is the best-selling book in the world, with six billion one million five hundred thousand printed copies. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding made a connection with his book and the Bible, using Simon, the Lord of the Flies, the island, etc. As a result of Golding’s experience in the war, seeing the constant struggles of mankind, his novel “Lord of the Flies” uses religious undertones to show the external struggle between good and evil within every human and how personal choice can either save or destroy mankind. Although, Golding did not actually place a Satan in the book, he did use the Lord of the Flies to personify the Devil. Lord of the Flies is one of many books written based off events in the Bible.

In fact, this is my semester studying in the America United State, and 1776 is the first English historical book that I have read in my life. I can tell it is a huge experience, and I feel really excited about it, especially the way David writes about historical circumstances in 1776 is liked telling audiences a story. He described the battles between Great Britain and America colonies. It is so real that I thought he was there in the battles witting and even joining it. Moreover, the book includes pictures of historical figures as King George, George Washington, or Henry Knox, etc., and three maps of Boston, Long Island, and Trenton that help me to understand how the line of the enemy set up and what directions the another was or was coming from.
