Abstinence 1. Attention Device (rhetorical question) Have you ever considered practicing abstinence? Have you ever know anyone to practice abstinence? Would ever consider practicing abstinence as an adult? 2. Problem (American pregnancy Association) American Pregnancy Association states that abstinence prevents the transmission of sexually transmitted disease 100% of the time when appropriately practiced and consistently. For most Americans, we preach and teach abstinence to our teens but, do we practice what we preach? The problem we have with abstinence, as adults, is “Why should I?” However the question should be, “why not?” As adults we often fail to act as adults should. Obligations (As a single mother, whom kept making the wrong choices in men, my obligation to my family is my reason for being non-sexual. I have made the informed choice to wait on getting involved in a sexual relationship because of my college studies is top priority as well as, my children’s happiness. An obligation to achieving a goal is a good reason to be abstinence. 5.
