In 2006, Rollie & Duck made a model of relationship breakdown, which focuses on the processes that are typically meant to happen when a relationship is breaking down rather than the distinct phases that people go through. I have to act in the individuals best interest, keep them safe, carry out risk assessments, promote informed choices but also respect their decision and right to live their life as they choose. If the risk seems great to me I would document it and discuss the matter with my manager. Another area where duty of care dilemmas may arise are confidentiality issues. I would think about how my death would affect them; would they be able to mourn in their own ways, or would they be forced to grieve briefly and be expected to immediately move on. I would also wonder about my mother and my brother. How would my death affect them? Was my relationship with them left in good terms, or was I leaving without being able to right a wrong that I should have apologized for? Would my mother make it, considering her health?
So I would incorporate several parts of the many theories and models which have been introduced to me. The first theory that would be contained within my personal model is the Alderian theory.
