Out of virtual reality, into daily interaction Imagine you wake up find yourself turned into an avatar. People around you can’t recognize who you are. You try to explain but couldn’t make a sound. Desperately, you run on to the street, reach out for help, but only to find people are trapped in avatars as you do. “Welcome to virtual reality”, there comes a cold and mechanical voice, “Virtual reality, virtual reality, virtual reality...” When virtual reality totally takes over real life, people can no longer talk to others face-to-face in their own voices, what are we suppose to do? How can we feel others and get connections? I hope it is only a nightmare and will never come true. To be honest, I didn’t pay attention to the changes in daily communication, as technology and virtual reality gradually became an indispensible part of everyday life. Virtual reality is attractive to me and to most people in industrialized society. In the virtual world I can be whomever I want, look however I like and have no restrictions of the reality. For these reasons, the virtual world becomes a great source of entertainment. In addition, it allows them to get away from the stressful daily routine and enjoy a private space where they won’t be recognized. For technological-based people like me, how could it be possible to live without the Internet and virtual reality? However, have you ever seen some friends walking on a street, but they just pass you by, absorbed in their mobile phones, without a greeting? Do you ever imagine what a group meeting would be like if everybody checked their Facebook frequently and paid no attention to what the leader is saying? Have you ever tried to make conversation with people, but they showed more interests in computer games than the topic you raised? I mean, seriously, how can you stand that? When most people still
