The media have created unnecessary fear and moral panic to legitimize their personal agendas under the guise of “protecting children”. More often than not, alternate explanations are not even taken into consideration. Depression, poverty, ignorance, self deprecation, bullying, violent home life are seldom cited and when cited are not explored in depth. The justice system in nearly every state has revised its juvenile justice laws to increase their penalties in many ways; however, the Supreme Court deemed juvenile executions unconstitutional, which in turn created even more
Which comes in, why kids shouldn’t be try as an adult. Most of us teens act pretty much like kids when were still 15-17 years old. In Adam Liptak’s article “Supreme Court to Rule on Executing Young Killers” published in The New York Times quotes “And jurors may not necessarily accept expert testimony concerning recent research showing that the adolescent brain is not fully developed”. Jurors have to accept the fact that teens brains aren’t develop and still may act like little kids. Also the fact that teens are so rough towards one another there brains aren’t thinking on what can happen if there physical towards people violently.
After reading Kenneth Wooden’s book Weeping in the Playtime of Others: America’s Incarcerated Children, I was exposed to the devastating, heartbreaking truths about our corrupt legal system. I was never aware of the physical abuse, torture and exploitation experienced by juveniles staying in correctional facilities across America. What I found to be most disturbing is that many of these youths were not actually criminals, but runaways and mentally disabled and emotionally disturbed children. The graphic and specific nature of the descriptions was extremely unsettling because although they are events that occurred in the past, it is still recent enough to realize that what happened to these children was not terribly long ago. However, the gruesome treatment of juveniles has in
Imaginary audience arises from the larger concept of adolescent egocentrism. Teens will feel that the imaginary audience is always commenting and judging them, teens at times can get caught up in their imagination and consider themselves “celebrities” but no one is actually watching them. The adolescent get so caught up in their imagination, that they develop a mood for their “audience”. The mood that the “audience” usually has is the attitude that the teen has that day for example if the teen feels self conscious than the “audience” is going to be judgmental. Children in childhood have imaginary friends, and they do believe that “others see what they see, know what they know, hear what they
In 15 states there are laws in place that make “Cyberbullying” a crime and there is currently a push in Washington D.C. to make it a felony. As of recent March 21, 2010 Alexis Pilkington took her own life as a result of cyberbullying and even after she was dead the bullying continued adding grief to her family and friends. 2. Do claims conflict with personnel observations: None of the claims made in the article conflict with my personnel beliefs, due to the fact that I have never experienced this type of bullying, nor have a I known anyone to experience this? I do know that through growing up that bullying is something that happens from our youth all the way up to grown up lives, but our youth in question for this article pushed the envelope way to far not even knowing or taking into account what could happen.
Since they are finally free from their parents or guardians, they want to enjoy their freedom by doing as you can call it “activities” that they were not allow to do when they were living with their parents because most parents won’t allow them to do such an activity. Also most of binge drinkers among college students, does not know that they are binge drinking or not. One of the major reasons that college students binge drink is severe and consistent pressure from their fellow students. Most of the college students, especially new enrolled students consider binge drinking is the way to adulthood. When most of the students go to the party, they end up drinking over their limit.
In fact drugs are being encouraged for anyone in need of it. However in today's society drugs seem to result in chaos rather than stability. It is illegal to take drugs with the exception of prescription drugs. Sadly in our society, drugs are also quickly available for those that want it. Unlike soma, the drugs produce numerous negative aftereffects.
Another possible issue is that teenagers do not fully understand the rules of the road; some may say teenagers are too young to grasp the consequences of irresponsible driving, or some may feel that the rules do not apply to them. This combined with the operation of a vehicle and limited on-the-road experience is clearly a mix that leads to a greater chance of getting into an accident. Sixteen year-olds are not even able to make decisions that matter to society let alone take responsibility for their own actions i.e. buying cigarettes or committing a crime. It can be argued that sixteen year olds are simply not mature enough and do not recognize different situations on the roads and highways to make split second decisions.
The researchers noticed a great deal of activity in the areas of the brain devoted to reward and pleasure. 4. Bullies lack the ability to self-regulate emotions The same researchers who conducted the brain scan study made another surprising discovery: the parts of the bullies’ brains that allows them to self-regulate their emotions were inactive. This suggests that bullies simply don’t have a way to control their anger and frustration, which may result in severe overreactions to small provocations. 5.
Have you ever: forgotten the name of someone you just met, been unable to put a name to the face of a neighbour you saw at the movies, failed to get the one item you actually went to the market to buy, or forgotten to take the 8pm dose of medication? Don’t feel bad – you’re not alone. Many teenagers worry about memory loss, but it is actually lack of concentration and listening skills. Lack of concentration is said to be one of the major causes of failure in studies these days. There are many factors which may distract concentration amongst teenagers, some of them are: 1.
