Schlosser then goes into discussing the callous illegal immigrant labor that takes place in strawberry fields of California. He doesn’t primarily focus on one individual case; however, the detail of the harsh work and living environments leave a lasting mental image of what the workers had to endure to make a measly buck. The final essay in Schlosser’s book discusses the founder of the pornography industry, Reuben Sturman, and the many trials and tribulations the U.S. government brought upon him. All three of Schlosser’s essays put the U.S. government in the forefront, showing all the ways that government intervention did not seem to be in the best interest of society. Reefer Madness The first focus of Schlosser’s book spotlights on the booming business in marijuana cultivation.
Just this past year a controversial law SB1070 was signed by Arizona’s governor, were local police have the power to stop anyone on reasonable suspicion that is an illegal immigrant. They have the right to arrest them if they don’t have any documentation such as a driver’s license, work permit, or resident card that shows legal status. The biggest objection of this law is racial profiling and how police can just arrest anyone by race or culture. Arizona population for Illegal’s is an estimate amount of a half a million people. The estimate of people could have been around for years since youth or with in the
Hate crimes are something that has been occurring since old times in forms of things such as slavery, and to an even more extreme extent, The Holocaust. On an opposite note, some criminals have been locked away because of the quick elimination of possible suspects in a case due to racial profiling. In recent news, there is a new immigration law in Arizona. This law states that any legal immigrant within the state must carry documents to identify their status. Governor Rick Perry thinks that laws like this can encourage unconstitutional racial profiling.

1. Does Jeff Ballinger have convincing argument about Nike? I think that Mr. Ballinger does have a convincing argument but I wonder is ethical approach to singling out Nike instead of focusing on foreign labor practices as a whole. Through his research and findings he compiles an interesting case about the abuse of foreign workers; however, he fails to mention that these practices are not limited to Nike alone. By not mentioning other companies that use the same tactics, he puts a negative image on Nike alone instead of all American companies who choose to outsource manufacturing to foreign countries.
Immigration has always been a part of globalization starting from the first barbarians that occupied the world in prehistoric times. Every year, hundreds of thousands of immigrants legal and illegal from around the world, come into the United States making a huge impact on the culture and the way of life of the American society. However, lately according to the documentary film “Border War: The Battle over Illegal Immigration” Produced by a nonprofit organization called “Citizens United,” illegal immigration has become a very persuasive problem to the American people. The film depicts the lives of people who have been affected by illegal immigration along the U.S. - Mexico border, such as the U.S. Border Patrol agent, Jose Maheda, saying that immediate action needs to be taken to establish an end to the issue. The film presents vivid pictures of how illegal aliens’ invasion through immigration causes a decline in the national security of America, which can effectively generate a cover for terrorists and criminals.
Brook Antonio GEC 100/ Sharon Corbin W3D1 Article Analysis My first article is titled "Jay-z can fight racial profiling in retail." It's an article written from a commentary stand point by Roxanne Jones; former ESPN president, and co-author of "Say It Loud: An Illustrated History of the Black Athlete." Roxanne Jones is expressing her opinions related to rapper Jay-Z's affiliation to the luxury store Barney's. Barney's is in the middle of a racial profiling lawsuit. Roxanne states, “two Barney’s customers, Trayon Christian and Kayla Phillips, said last week that they were racially profiled and detained by police after making expensive purchases."
Some of the current sources of stress for the criminal justice professional are, long hours and not enough family time with loved ones. I do believe that the agencies provide adequate assistance with managing occupational stressors; they are just not explored and used enough by the individuals that need them. I believe the politics of corruption exists within the field of criminal justice. I say that because it seems that if you are wealthy strings can be pulled for you and u can afford the best lawyers, and u could be guilty but you will get off because you or your family are well off. On the other hand there that middle class of poor that knows nothing about the system or doesn’t have the resources to get a good lawyer they are screwed completely ruin your life and affecting some people around you.
In other words, Sandel describes it as the idea of encouraging the gifted to utilize their talents to reap rewards for the community as a whole. This is also a philosophy that I agree with, and once again it is a philosophy that shows how unjust these employers are to hire illegal workers. These employers are using their status and gifts to reap profits solely for themselves and their companies and certainly not to benefit these illegal immigrants as they are being exploited. The employers are certainly not working for the betterment of the least advantaged, which is once again evident in the fact that many of them don’t offer safety regulations or job benefits. While this is not the case for every single U.S. employer who hires illegal immigrants, I do strongly believe, supported by statistics, that these are the major reasons why most employers hire them.
It set up the New Deal's fundamental strategy of centralized planning as a means of combating the Depression. Industrial sectors were encouraged to avoid competition. Selling below cost to attract customers and drive weaker competitors out of business. Which may have been good for individual businesses in the short-run, but resulted in increased unemployment and an even smaller customer pool in the
