In order to clearly understand and to answer the question in point first we need to make adequate understanding of the following; * Organizational structure * Organizational culture Once we make a clear understanding of the above, we will be able to debate on how they affect the performance of the business. Finally we can comment on the factors which influence individual behaviour at work. Organizational Structure: The concept of organizational structure is very simple to understand. You must have worked in an organization, you must have noticed that there are some people working above you and some might be working under you. It is exactly what organizational structure is, the chain of command of the organization. “The typical hierarchical arrangements of lines of authority, communications, rights and duties of an organization. Organizational structure determines how the roles, power and responsibilities are assigned, controlled and coordinated and how information flows between the different levels of management.” (Businessdirectory.com, 2012) Different organizations have different structures; it depends on the strategy and objective of the organization. The most common type of a structure is Centralized structure, in which the top level management has the power to make decisions. In a Decentralized structure the decision making power does not totally lay with the top level management, instead is so distributed that everyone has a certain level of decision making. Unilever is the best example to demonstrate decentralized structure. Since Unilever makes and sells different products in different parts of the world, it has distributed its decision making powers accordingly i.e. accordingly to products and according to geographic areas.
