Organizations are collections of people working together to achieve a common purpose (Schermerhorn, 2005). Although the study of organizations includes the focus of the organizational structure, the writer will be focusing on organizational behavior, organizational culture, diversity, communication, organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and organizational learning. She will define the terms and concepts and relate them to her workplace for a clearer understanding. Organizational behavior is defined as the study of human behavior in organizations. It is a multidisciplinary field devoted to understanding individual and group behavior, interpersonal processes and organizational dynamics (Schermerhorn, 2005). Familiarizing oneself with the organizational behavior of a company of interest is a good way to develop a better understanding of the organizations working environment. Before the writer committed herself to her current place of employment she studied organizations behavior first. She had the capability of taking time off from her employment at the time for one week. She took the liberty of beginning employment with the new company to see if she would enjoy the work environment. She observed the people’s behavior with one another as a group as well the relationship between management and employees. After one week of the thorough observation she made the decision to switch employment.
