Personality encompasses the relatively stable feelings, thoughts and behavioral patterns a person has. Understanding one’s personality enables us to know how that person is likely to act and feel in a variety of situations. (1) In this particular assignment, I am going to analyze my personality traits to understand how they influence my behavior at work and my work performance. There are five main personality traits which give a common view of people’s personality as described by Goldberg, L.R (1990) (2):- 1. Openness to experience – A personality of a person who is original, creative and open to accept new ideas or opinions. 2. Conscientiousness – Used to describe a person who is organized, systematic, punctual, result/ achievement oriented, dependable/ reliable and loyal to instructions. 3. Extraversion – A personality trait that is associated with being outgoing, sociable, talkative, enjoying social situation. 4. Agreeableness – Portrays a warm personality, tolerant towards others, sensitive, trusting, kind and accommodating. 5. Emotional Stability – The ability to deal with stress. To certain extend, the person behavior at work may relate to his personality, which ultimately will give effect to his performance at work. However, according to Talya Bauer and Berrin Erdogan in Organizational Behaviour (1999), work behaviors are strongly affected by the expectation of the manager or organization as opposed to how the person wants to behave. As a person, I perceive myself as having a Conscientiousness and Agreeableness type of personality. I am brought up in a conservative family and being the youngest, I have learned to accept and agree to the elders. In our family, the younger children are not allowed to challenge any ideas or decision of the elders. My family holds pride in the well-mannered behavior of their young ones. We have to excel in our
