Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts Paper MGT/307 Organizational Behavior Terminology and Concepts Paper Present day organizations frequently promote change in order to improve work environments. Quite often though these changes cause unwanted outcomes that were not anticipated. This leads individuals to observe organizational behavior. The expectation is to minimize unwanted and negative changes within an organization. Organizational behavior, organizational culture, diversity, communication, organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and organizational learning are all factors within an organization (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, 2008). These subjects will be covered within the content of this paper as well as a brief insight into Fastenal, which is an international industrial supply organization. Organizational Culture Organizational culture is a shared set of beliefs and values within an organization. In the internal environment of organizations, the shared beliefs and values that influence the behavior of organizational members create what is called the organizational culture. Organizations with strong cultures operate with a clear vision of the future that is supported by thought out and well-communicated beliefs and values. The internal environments of organizations with strong and positive cultures include a high-performance orientation, emphasis on teamwork, encouragement of risk taking, and emphasis on innovation (Schermerhorn, Hunt, Osborn, 2008). Using an instrument called the Organizational Culture Inventory; individuals describe the behaviors and expectations that frame the existing cultures of an organization. The Organizational Culture Inventory maps use these results to describe three alternative types of organizational cultures.
