Abstract The purpose of this report is to discuss operations management problems faced by IKEA and to suggest how those problems can be resolved. The objective of this report is also to apply proper operations management theories which can be implemented to resolve the problems and also to find a permanent solution for IKEA. Table of contents Introduction Before starting with the paper, I will first define operations management and then I will start describing the company IKEA and the main objectives of the paper. Operations management is a multi-disciplinary field that focuses on managing all aspects of an organisation’s operations. “The typical organisation consists of the integration of many different functions, “wrote Howard J. Weiss and Mark, E. Gershan in production and Operations management.” The two most obvious functions are to provide the product or service and to sell the product or service. Operations management focuses on the function of providing the product or service. It is concerned with the planning and controlling of all activities necessary for the provision of the firm’s product or service. Aspects of operations management, then include products or services to emphasize facility size and location with respect to customers and suppliers, marketing strategies to attract customers, techniques and equipment to use to make the goods or to provide the services, work force management and training, and measurements of quality assurance. My assignment is based on operations management followed in IKEA. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the operations management function in the organisation by understanding the operations process and planning and control.
