1. Draw a map of the supply chain for LeapFrog, including the retailers, Capable Toys, and suppliers of key materials (such as Tyvek). Which supply chain partners are “upstream” of LeapFrog? Which are “downstream”? Which partners are first-tier suppliers? Second-tier suppliers? The operations carried out in the initial stages at a firm of producing a service or good is known as upstream. Therefore suppliers who work with leapfrog at the initial stages of the chain are the upstream which include the following: Material that drool resistant –absorb ink supplier, Membrane supplier, Microchipssupplier, Mini-Speaker supplier and capable, DuPontCo.: Tyvek supplier. As the upstream is known to be the preliminary stages, downstream will be the last stages in the supply chain. This identifies that transportation of goods, dealing with consumers, and retailers for example: Target, Wal-Mart, Toy ‘R”Us, Kmart, are all included in the downstream of Leapfrog. Partners who are first-tier supplier of a company are those who deliver materials and parts directly to those who are responsible for manufacturing of goods. Therefore, Microchips supplier, DuPont Co.: Tyvek supplier and Mini-speaker supplier are first-tier suppliers of Leapfrog. Whereas, companies who supplies parts or materials to another company that further supplies those parts to the manufacturer are second tier suppliers.
