(Slack et al., 2010). Author is going to adopt the viewpoint of the operations management and briefly discuss several operational management topic areas in order to show how to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Report will include such topics as capacity management, queuing and last but not least, quality. Author is going to reflect his work experience in the report. Capacity Management According to Slack et al. (2010) capacity management is about ensuring that there is some kind of balance between the demand placed on an operation and its ability to satisfy that demand. The issue can be easily seen in hospitality industry. Hotels and restaurants have unexpected and apparently random changes in demand from night to night, but also know from experience that some days are on average busier than others, so operations managers also have to make short-term capacity adjustments, which enable them to let output for short period, either on a predicted basis (Christmas period, bank holidays) or at short notice (a sunny warm day or otherwise cold winter day). So, for example, from author’s personal experience working in a busy city central restaurant can be said that if on one day the whole restaurant is going to be fully booked for a wedding party, it is pretty sure that the indicated amount of guests will turn up. This allows planning more accurately the exact amount of food that need to be purchased
