Oona and the giant Cuchulain An ancient Irish folk tale The story is long ago in Ireland. Cuchulain was a giant that everybody was afraid of. He had beat up everybody except one giant he was Finn Mac Cool. He had built his house on top of a windy mountain to keep an eye on Cuchulain. Every time Finn Mac Cool would see Cuchulain in the distant he would run and hide. Cuchulain had sworn to beat Finn up, but Finn had a special talent when he sucked his big thump all things would become clear. One day he sucked his thump and said to his wife Oona “Cuchulain is coming this way”, Oona said that she would save his skin. She then proceeded to bake 6 cakes 3 which had an iron pot inside it. Oona dressed Finn like a baby, Finn told Oona that Cuchulain kept all of his strength in his middle finger. Cuchulain then came to the house, Oona and Cuchulain talked. She asked him to turn her house because the wind had changed, after that she asked him to fill a jug with water but to do that he had to lift a rock taller than him and twice as wide as him .Oona had said that Finn always did it, she used the water to make some tea to him. After the hard work he was hungry so she gave him the 3 cakes with the iron pots in them. When he bit it his 2 front teeth fell off. He howled in pain and said it was hard as a rock, she said that it was Finn’s favorite cake. Finn screamed Oona said that when the baby’s father screamed you could hear it clear across the ocean. Cuchulain began to think it maybe was a mistake to hunt Finn. Oona gave Finn some of cake without the iron pot inside it. Cuchulain was shocked that how a baby could eat such a hard cake. Oona said that when Finn was 1 year old he was wrestling with bulls. Cuchulain definitely didn’t want to meet Finn now. Oona asked if Cuchulain would try and feel Finn’s teeth. He said yes and after he felt them he only had 4
