Star Trek is a good example of this utopia; a seemingly infinite abundance to draw upon the society seeks to discover, catalogue and understand the elements within the universe with peaceful mission that forbids the Federation’s advanced Star Fleet to interfere with any world or civilisation it comes into contact with. The polar opposite of the above utopia is, of course, a technological dystopia. At its heart is a fear the effect of social Darwinism and survival of the fittest. In order to progress society must evolve and only the strong
In that context globalization has been described either the next logical step from modernism or as a separate event called postmodernity. The shared view is that both industrialisation snd globalization are characterised as a massive change and the eventually breack down the bounderies of ancient civilazation. Nations dominate the planet, since every corner now belongs to one or more than 200 nations and teritories. It a well known fact that nationalism and our system of nation states has a spoted history. First, there are still many parts of the globe where border disputes remain, and give rise to tensions- like Chinas claim to the spralty ilands in the South China Seas.
The Lingering Problems of Direct Democracy: Potential for Abuse in a Time of Technological Change In considering the possibility of implementing a form of web and computer-based direct democracy in American society, the benefits, as they pertain to transparency and responsiveness, appear to be significant. Problematically, however, and in spite of the technological growth which has made large-scale direct democracy foreseeable in a federal republic, several elements of human nature and of American life alike preclude the possibility of its real emergence. For one, the problem of the factions, discussed at length in the Federalist Papers, might create a context in which direct democracy would become oppressive to America’s minorities. Additionally,
Yet, another reason why we, as a nation, alter the Constitution in our own ways, still allowing each part as an indication of mandate. Moreover, that is not written in The Constitution is the fact that Washington appointed cabinet members to help him run the
In the United States public leadership roles range from community organizer, leader, state representative, city council, mayor governor, senator, congress and of course, the highest seat of official leadership, president. While the descriptive roles of the said titles will remain in place, I ponder how the forthcoming leaders in generation Y {born 1982-2000} {AKA millennial generation} will address today’s looming concerns that will be tomorrow’s issues. I recently read a powerful quote that did not have the author’s name at the end. Despite the question of authorship, the quote was a stark reminder of the current rolling coin of change taking place in America. It read: “Changing world political realities, population demographics, the environment
It also lists the aims of the national government and the methods of achieving them. Previously, the nation's leaders had established an alliance among the states under the Articles of Confederation. But the Congress created by the Articles lacked the authority to make the states work together to solve national problems. (Worldbook
Dystopia The novel "Parable of the Sower" by Octavia Butler is related to the documentary "Earth 2100" because both shows how our world can become a dystopia in the future. Our society will exhaust our own designs. They both are considered science fiction but are both actually possible realistic outcomes of the future. Like the Mayan cilivization was a thriving civilization and all of a sudden it collapsed. Parable of the sower is a novel by Octavia Butler.
It became a subject of much writing. Authors evaluated what caused the financial and emotional trauma. Two famous books have become classics for all future generations. They are : Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men. The most important effect was that government now intervened and took on a much larger role in social, political, and economic areas.
The amount of power government has and the role it plays for a nation has been a long debate, in not just America’s past, but in nearly every organized country. Since our Founding Fathers, there have been those that have tried to reduce and keep at bay government intervention and spending, but with little success. In an interview on Uncommon Knowledge, Mr. Peter Robinson spoke with journalist John Stossel discussing his book No They Can’t: Why Government’s Fail….But Individuals Succeed. They converse a variety of economic issues covering these main points (1) the responsibilities of government, (2) the responsibilities of individuals, (3) the responsibilities of businesses and the market, and last (4) the responsibilities of you, me, and all Americans. The opening quote from Stossel’s book for the segment states that man’s natural instinct is to blame the government and ask for it to do something, often making the problem worse.
