Ka’s father believed that it if he lived a good life the past would not affect him and that he could live at peace but that was not the case. Even though he looked different he himself would always know about all the evil actions he had committed. By changing his identity he wanted to give himself and his family a fresh start but there was a bigger fear in that he would get catch that led his wife to decide never to bring him to Mass with her again. The victims of the Dew Breaker were so affected by what had happened to them that they lived in fear that he would find them and even after they had found him, they could not find it in their hearts to hurt him. The Dew Breaker committed evil crimes but at the end, it was himself that caused him pain because he could never redo the
He could have easily remained in the gang life but he realized that in staying apart of the gang would result in his death or else he would spend most of his time behind bars. While in prison he had lots of time to himself, time to think and reflect. The only way Sanyika could move on and forgive himself was to forget everyone within the gangs and the many people he hurt and remove himself from it. His way in doing this was to change his name. Sometimes when forgiving it is important to figure out what will make ones self feel better and make it possible to move on.
It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, not dreams of glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor. The died so as not to die of embarrassment”(483). This quote describes what the men were feeling they wanted to go home and leave a lot of them were cowards deep down but they didn’t was to disappoint and be cowards because they came to the war and most were trying to do it the honorable way even if it led to death it was better than leaving like a
It was like he never did stop thing about her and what he wanted to do to her. Jimmy Cross, for example, feels denied after the war because his hope for happiness in Martha is dashed by her rejection. One day they were talking and she was telling him that you’re not like other guys at first he didn’t know what she was talking about until she gave him a little more information. That was when he was telling her that he wanted to and she said I’m glad that you didn’t try it. During the story it also describes their attempts to converse with an A&W employee, but no one will offer them consolation.
College takes a great deal of money, and he did not have the money. Furthermore, his alcoholic mother is unable to send him to college because she lacks the finical ability to do so. When Richi says, “My plans, maybe just my dreams really, had been to go to college, and to write. All the other guys in the neighborhood thought I was going to college. I wasn’t, and the army was the place I was going to get away from all the questions”, this illustrates that Richi is
But, his dad was getting beat up and him or his dad could not move. And when his dad disappears over night, he did not care about life anymore. He cared for his dad to a great extent. Also, when the dentist wanted his gold crown out of his mouth. He did not want to go so he made up an excuse not to get it removed.
When they were about to leave the place someone came and put there arm around Abbey and it didn’t tell what she did till the next chapter. To tell you the truth I really didn’t want to read it because I was scared something bad was going to happen. It turned out she just bit him really hard and it worked! The book was odd because some of the stuff just didn’t make any sense to me like why they snuck out of the house so may times. And when the father didn’t want to get out of jail it made no sense because he could have gotten bailed out!
On The Rainy River “One Man’s Responsibility” English April 8, 2013 Many men were imprisoned and some even put to death for refusing to fight in war. In the short story “On The Rainy River,” author Tim O’Brien tells about his own experience at the age of 21, when he receives a draft notice for the Vietnam War. He was devoted to his country, but not necessary devoted to protecting it. O’Brien is faced with fighting in a war that he doesn’t agree with, and is also terrified of. Should he take up a weapon and fight, or should he find a different path?
He decides to go to war because he is ashamed of running from it. “It had nothing to do with mortality. Embarrassment, that's all it was” (O’Brien 59). That same feeling of embarrassment is what made half of the soldiers go to Vietnam. Jimmy Cross went to war only because his friends did, and that led him to danger.
His clear memory, after fifteen years, of the events that took place with these friends, showed how much these boys not only meant to him then, but also how much they shaped the man he had become. There were not many occasions when they show much friendship toward one another. When Finny finally realized that Gene betrayed him, he began to run and he fell down a flight of stairs and broke his leg again. This probably gave Gene insight into what war really was all about. When Gene went he realized that Leper was Away With Out Leave and the war had caused him to go insane.
