Older Adult Interview Meriam Izobo University of Michigan- Flint My older adult interview has changed the way I feel about my health and my future. Having the chance to interview someone who has been through so much and has had so many stories and experiences to share has made me take a look at my life and the things that are most important. I can say that from this interview I will strive to keep me and my family healthy and I will greatly consider planning today for tomorrow as in my retirement. The older adult that I interviewed let me take a look into every personal aspect of his life sharing personal and emotional information that will stay with me forever. He stands at about 5ft. 10in. and weighs about 315lbs. He has never consumed alcohol or smoked cigarettes in his entire life. He does admit to drinking 1 Liter of Pepsi every day for most of his working life. He does not have a regular exercise schedule but occasionally will walk up and down the stairs or back and forth in the hallway of his house. He sleeps most of the time upright in a chair in his living room and has a lot of respiratory difficulty when he lays flat in bed. He was diagnosed with sleep apnea about 4 years ago and now wears a BIPAP machine. He admits that he is noncompliant with his BIPAP machine and only wears it as often as he feels the need. He also was diagnosed with diabetes about eight years ago and is currently taking 10units of Lantus at bedtime and takes Novolin R with meals, he is on sliding scale coverage. He admits that his diet isn’t the best but he is making an attempt to eat more healthy foods. He also takes testosterone replacement shots monthly due to his low testosterone levels. He has Peripheral Vascular Disease and Edema in the bilateral lower legs and wears compression stockings throughout the day and most of the night. He sees a psychologist every other Wednesday because he has some depression and admits that his therapy sessions are beneficial and helps him cope with stressors in his life.
