Old Time Transportation Transportation today varies in many sizes and shapes. They are used for the transportation of goods, people, and technology across long and short distances all over the world. Eventually traditions, cultures and ideas began to spread throughout the people. Back then there were much similar transportations like the ones today like roads and railroads. They played a major part in uniting societies, managing them, but most importantly it became an essential to the regions. In the roman times railroads were an important structure in their society. The romans saw their transportation system as a proper way of administration; maintaining the roman state. With railroads the romans could transport military soldiers and make easier communication easier for feedback. This was their way of keeping their empire under control. In the eyes of the Tokugawa transportation was a lot harsher, considering that they had to travel by foot constantly or on horseback during war times. Despite that, being a messenger had it benefits. They had first access ferries at river crossings and could easily pass road barriers. Transportation wasn’t all done by land. There were other effortless ways of transportation that required less work. The grand canal of china is one good example. The grand canal of china was a water way route that was used to carry grain from the south to the north. It helped the people of china stayed united with their capital. This transportation system made it a lot easier to transport goods and people, even taxes. Not only did it serve as a transportation system, but it provided people with jobs. Amongst other water ways this on got more attention because of its main route to the capital, compared to the canal that was used in Tenochtitlan.
