I have overcome a lot of things in my life just like Santiago in the book The Old Man in the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. Santiago overcomes multiple things during his journey throughout the book like going out so far and catching the fish and when the younger boys were being mean to him. My greatest thing I have ever done is overcoming my fears when I was in the hospital after my back surgery. During my journey through the hospital I overcame my fears and had a great success.
It is January 3, 2010 and I just left the doctor’s office. I have to have surgery on my back because I have Scheuermann's Kyphosis disease. This is a disease that occurs when one part of your spine grows faster then the other part and creates a curve. I am very nervous but if I don’t get it done it is just going to get worse. A few months pass and I come home from school and my mom tells me that the date of my surgery is going to be June 8th. I am scared but excited. Right away I call all my close friends and tell them. School ends and there are only five more days until my surgery. Today is June 8th and I have butterflies in my stomach. It is 4:30 in the morning and I have to be at the hospital at 5:00 a.m. I get there and the rest of my family is there. Right away they send me to a room and the nurse walks in and takes a vile of my blood. She also gives me a wrist band that has my name, a password and my mom and dads name on it. The next thing I know I am being rolled into another room with my mom and dad following me. I see my doctor that is going to do the surgery and more nurses that gave me a IV that put me to sleep. The last thing I remember is telling my parents that I love them and everything is going to be okay.
I can hear my mom talking “Taelor your lips are so big. Taelor, hey sweetie it is your Mom you look so good.” I am scared to move or do anything at all. I turn my head and open my eyes. I was so happy to see her face. She said that I was asleep for nine hours and to me it...
