Like many artists of the 1880’s, the Post-Impressionist wanted to portray “emotion and intellect as well as the visual imagery” ("Post impressionist,"). Some of these paintings were very expressive and sometimes emotional, such as the paintings by Van Gogh. The abstractness of these paintings were often underappreciated and ridiculed by society, like the works Van Gogh. It wasn’t until years later that some of these works were appreciated and valued. Many Post-Impressionism works of art were inspired by the historical events occurring at that time.
The Madonna and Child is a piece that uses many techniques used during the Renaissance period such as one point perspective, balance, use of geometric design, and religious themes. While the Madonna and Child is very different from the first piece of art that I chose to analyze Buddha Seated in Meditation as both works of art use different mediums, come from different historical periods, and have different religious influences the artists both used symmetry and balance and religious themes while completing their works. The colors used by Raphael in this painting are very bright colors. In this particular painting Raphael used primary colors ,this painting is polychromatic in that it uses many different colors. The used of red and green and yellow adds contracts as red and green are on the opposite side of the color wheel.
Their painting didn’t have Greek gods but real people. Many of their painted scenes were from daily life but not classical myths. Northern renaissance techniques also were quite different than that of their counter part Italian renaissance. They found new oil technique, which they can paint in layers that would create light and depth of colors in the paintings. Wooden panel painting is also another famous technique used in the northern renaissance era where they did paintings in wooden panel or multiple wooden panels.
In the painting by Jacques Louis David, The Emperor Napoleon in his study at the Tuileries, 1812 is a formal looking painting with dark colors and the painting is in focus unlike the Impressionism painting technique. The Neoclassicism painting technique is an easier painting to understand and has a classier technique than the other art styles. Impressionism art was established in the late 1800’s. Claude Monet was using the new Impressionism painting technique which included the combination of two or more pigments on a single wide paint brush, he also used what is called the ‘wet on wet’ method of painting that consisted of wet paint being painting over paint that was not yet dried. According to the artist Sayre, Impressionists painted mostly pictures of the Parisian lifestyle.
The Slave Ship vs. Impression: Sunrise The Slave Ship by JMW Turner and Impression: Sunrise by Claude Monet share many similarities. Yet, they also have very noticeable differences. Both artists use the water as their main themes, but the way they use delivers contrasting messages. In addition, they both use oil paint as the art media.
When you smell caraway oil, you will get a moist wood type smell. When you smell the spearmint oil, you should smell a really strong minty smell. Not only is it really minty, but it has a slight smell of alcohol. In the second part of this lab, you will be using an analytical gas chromatography. The analytical gas chromatography will tell you the retention times of the components in your substance.
Limonene, the chief component of orange oil, is widely used as a fragrance and flavoring, as well as a cleaning solvent. Limonene, a naturally occurring hydrocarbon, is a cyclic monoterpene, a class of natural products biosynthesized by the assembly of isoprene units into various structures. Many terpenes are responsible for the odors of plants like eucalyptus, pine, mint, lavender, rose, and others. Organic chemists use terpenes and other natural products as chiral starting materials for complex chemical syntheses or as inspirations for pharmaceuticals. Some natural products are attractive synthetic targets because of interesting or unusual structural features or medicinal applications.
Slavery and population had a big affect on the next 100 years of the United States history. Kendra Sturghall Ms. Doar H American Lit 3rd Period November 15, 2012 John Adams vs. Paul Revere Portraits John Copley decided to make the John Adams and Paul Revere portraits alike by adding a balance with an asymmetrical pattern, by incorporating a smooth texture that gives the viewer a tranquil feeling, and including symbols that tells a story about the person in the image. However, the portraits’ differences are what bring out the most important aspects of the image. These differences are based off of the paintings’ proportion and effects. Copley focuses on his usage of colors in the John Adams painting, whereas in the Paul Revere painting, he focuses more on proportions and details. The artwork of John Adams has great balance, noticeable effects, and incredible symbols.
Give some of the most significant reasons why the Western countries were so set to dominate the 20th century. The Western countries being considered Europe, Great Britain, America, Germany, during the time of the second industrial revolution, advanced far beyond what the world had seen in years prior. It seemed to the Western world that all their problems would be solved: such high technological advancement, such as betterment of communications, transportation, production, and material costs, revolutionized the age. Steel was discovered; it’s strength and malleability made it the new iron and machines, engines, ships, railways and weapons prevailed being lighter, smaller, and faster. Electricity, provided by new hydroelectric power stations and coal-fired steam-generating plants (making first head in 1910), was also an enormous factor in the Western societies’ advancement.
