But without Lennie, George would be alone and unhappy, he realizes: "Course Lennie's a nuisance most of the time, but you get used to going around with a guy and you can't get rid of him" (Pg.41).Lennie and George love one another; they know that their lives have meaning because they are friends. When Lennie accidentally breaks the neck of Curley' wife, George kills Lennie in an act of mercy and love, knowing that Lennie could not survive in prison In addition to their similarities, George and Lennie have some important differences the first characteristic is their physical appearance. Lennie is large and strong. Steinbeck describes him as "a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders; and he walks heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws" (Pg.2). Lennie is powerfully built and his strength gets him into many sticky situations throughout the book.
The relationship between George and Lennie is very strong. Lennie is a big, and jolly. The things Lennie says and does George gets stressed out about but he knows that Lennie doesn’t mean to act the way he does. Lennie is always by George’s side, and George is always on Lennie’s side. Of Mice and Men is really about Lennie and George’s journey and relationship with each other, and how they really need each other in their lives.
He does not mean to hurt things, but he does on accident. (pg.9) This book easily keeps your interest because of all the little hints Steinbeck’s characters drop. George is always saying how Lennie is always screwing things up, and gets into trouble. (pg.41) We know that Lennie did something bad in Weed because they had to leave there. Also, George tells Lennie to come back to the lake and hide in the brush if he ever gets into trouble.
We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us” Lennie eagerly finishes George’s description of them saying “But not us! An’ why? Because…I got you to look after me and you got me to look after me” From this conversation alone it is obvious to us that George and Lennie are on completely different wavelengths intellectually, Lennie being extremely childlike, thinking and speaking like a toddler would, and George being a father-like figure, getting frustrated when Lennie doesn’t understand him, or when he doesn’t remember something he’s been told, as Lennie pointed out, physically, they are not alone, physically, they do have each other and although Lennie isn’t intellectually able enough to understand, mentally, George is alone, travelling and holding conversations with a man who has the mental ability of a 3 year old would not be enough to take away the feeling of loneliness. Although Lennie isn’t alone, he has a
Nemo said that he would swim inside the net and tell all the other fish to swim down, but there was, however, one thing stopping them. Marlin. Nemo was able to convince his dad in letting him attempt this. This was the biggest decision Marlin had ever made. There was no way the old Marlin would let Nemo take this risk even if it was for Dory because it's simply too dangerous and with Nemo's bad fin, he wouldn't want to risk it. However, he learned to let go and believe that Nemo can do this and with Marlin's approval Nemo was suceeded in his plan and the fish, including Dory were freed.
George and Lennie are two migrant workers in the 1930’s that have nothing but each other, and the hope for the realization of an American dream. George being the good man he is has to put up with Lennie who seems to be nothing but trouble. Lennie is an innocent man but the mild mental disability he carries in his life seems to work against him and George. Throughout the book we learn a great deal about the relationship between Lennie and George, and just why George made the decision he made at the end of the novella.
3. Candy and Slim are minor but very different characters. Discuss why Steinbeck has included them in “Of Mice and Men”, both in terms of the role they play in the plot of the story and in what Steinbeck has to say about human nature through them. 4. Discuss, with quotations and close reference, how Steinbeck uses language, both spoken and descriptive, to create a variety of effects in “Of Mice and Men”.
They don’t belong no place…With us it ain’t like that. We got a future…because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you.’ These are great quotes from the famous short novel, Of Mice and Men. In this book there are two significant characters, George and Lennie. George is described as, ‘small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp strong features.’ Lennie is then described as, ‘a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders.’ Steinbeck uses several interesting methods to present the relationship between these two characters which makes this book so captivating. Steinbeck uses symbolism at the start of chapter 6 to give the reader an idea of what will happen to George and Lennie’s relationship during this chapter.
George admits this to Slim when discussing him and Lennie "It's a lot nicer to travel around with a guy you know" "I forgot again" This suggests that Lennie has the mental immaturity of a child, as children always forget and only remember things they find important. "Aw, let me have it George" This suggests this as well as children don't understand that when they've got to follow an order, and they throw tantrums. "Where we going?" This shows that Lennie has the mental immaturity of a child as he depends totally on George for his survival, therefore he just follows George and takes his orders. Steinbeck conveys that George gets easily annoyed with Lennie as he always has to remind him as Lennie always forgets things; "So you forget that awready did you?
There is always that same depiction of that good girl, but do the guys deserve it? Not at all, and the ones that deserve it go for less-than-perfect girls. Good guys go for bad girls, and they leave the almost-perfect girls aside. We all know it, we all see it, why deny it? Girls see guys go for the girls that dress scantily clad, the ones that would rather wake up 2 hours earlier just to cake their faces on, the ones that rather go to a school that has hotter guys than a better education, the ones that flirt with all the boys, the girls that think about themselves and have no regards for others, we see it, we good girls see it all.
