OMAM Argumentative Essay- Should George Have Killed Lennie? Have you ever had a close friend? Well In the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie were close friends. People don't kill their close companions but George kills Lennie. George was wrong for killing Lennie because Lennie trusted him to keep him safe, and as an alternative George shot him. Also George shouldn’t have killed Lennie because Lennie was his close friend and George was Lennie’s close friend. George shouldn't have killed lennie. In the beginning they had a plan that if anything terrible occurred that Lennie would go in the brush until it was safe for George to come for him. “I go hide there an' hide in the brush (Steinbeck 30). That is repeated by Lennie so he remembers to hide if something should occur. Then once Lennie kills Curly’s wife, George tries to keep him secure by saying, "We came from the North, so he would have gone south (Steinbeck 97). George leads them away but yet he kills his close friend. Instead of killing him he could have had him run away and go in a cave until a later time when it was safer. He didn’t have to kill him. He had other options. Throughout the whole novel, George protects Lennie and in the end it was all so useless. George was wrong for killing Lennie in the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. George shouldn’t have killed Lennie because Lennie completely trusted him and they were close buds. Also because he had other ways to get Lennie safely away from Curly. George didn’t have to kill him, but did anyway. George also protected Lennie during the whole story so it is useless in the end that he went through all that trouble.
