There were events in both the Odyssey and O brother where art thou. Even though they had a different setting and different time, the movies have some things in common. Some of the events in both movies had the same meanings. This includes Poseidon and the sheriff, the blind prophets, and the main characters quest to get home. Importantly, Poseidon and the sheriff both opposed what the main character was doing. The sheriff didn’t like how Everett didn’t obey the laws. Poseidon didn’t like how Odysseus thought he didn’t need the god help. Poseidon and the sheriff both tried to punish the main character. Poseidon was almost everywhere that Odysseus was. The sheriff followed the Everett. Poseidon killed some of Odysseus’s men. The sheriff almost killed Pete. In the end Poseidon and the sheriff were not bothering the main characters. The Cyclops in O brother where art thou was not really a Cyclops like in the Odyssey. This Cyclops was a human that had only one working eye. The Cyclops in the Odyssey was one that was mad by Poseidon. The Cyclops in the Odyssey fought the man character just to eat him. The Cyclops in O brother where art thou, fought the main character to get Everett’s money. The Cyclopes in both movies weren’t the same kind of Cyclopes. In both O brother where art thou and, the Odyssey the both had men trying to take the main characters families. In the Odyssey the men wanted to marry the main character’s wife for the royalty. In the movie O brother where art thou the man that wanted to marry the main character’s wife actually liked Everett’s wife. The men trying to take Odysseus’s wife were killed by him. The man trying to Everett’s wife just left after Everett won her back. All in all the men in both movies were trying to take the main character’s wife for different
