Team Building Kay Hill HR615 Fayetteville State University February 16, 2013 Abstract The focus of this paper is to explore the history, current models and applications of a team building intervention according to the lessons learned in the textbook Organization Development and related information. In this paper we will explore the importance of team in an organization and the need to learn and understand how team functions in order to design a team building intervention. The paper will explore the collaboration process through diagnosis as a road map by identifying areas to examine and question, feeding back data to the purpose of problem solving making valid assessments and interventions effects, and how to make Organizational Development team building intervention institutionalized and become part of the organization’s normal functioning. Team Building Intervention Definition Team Building is one of the three human processes intervention strategies used in Organizational Development designed to achieve a group goal or to help solve a group cohesiveness problem. Human process interventions relates to the underlying forces and competences of individuals and group dynamics. As defined in the textbook: Organization Development & Change, a team building intervention affects mainly groups, thereby influencing individuals and an organization secondarily (Cummings & Worley, 2008; French & Bell, 1984). A team building intervention is a sequenced of planned actions and/or events designed to purposely disrupt the status quo to help an organization achieve effectiveness. Team building interventions can lead to the improvement of completion of tasks and increase performance as well.
