I chose this career for one and one reason only and that is to do something in the medical field. This career will help me work with my patients, person to person. This career is universal and will always be in business. In this business you get to work with famous celebrities or even a common human which would be great because you get to listen to what interesting things they say. You hear their stories, their problems and you are able to help them in any way possible, or you might help them by going the extra mile. You help your patients in a physical way or mental way. Occupational therapy is a health care profession with a focus on occupation. “Occupation Therapist attempt to minimize handicaps resulting from physical, development, cognitive, emotional and social problems, and to help individuals obtain maximum independence” (Christi Newman).“Skills for self-care, school or work, play or leisure and interpersonal and group interactions are necessary for satisfying, productive life” (California Career zone). Personal traits necessary for working in this profession are intelligence imagination, patience, and teaching ability. “The hours for an Occupational Therapist are working 3 days per week and 7 hours a day”(Christi Newman.) Working conditions for an Occupational Therapist are to plan, organize, and conduct occupational therapy programs in hospital, institutional, or community settings to help rehabilitate those impaired because of illness, injury or psychological or developmental problems. Typical days for Therapist are “test and evaluate patients' physical and mental abilities and analyze medical data to determine realistic rehabilitation goals for patients” (Christi Newman).
