Who’s to Blame for the Obesity Problem in America? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Centers), there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the United States over the past 20 years. “More than one-third of U.S. adults are obese” (Centers). There are so many reasons why Americans are overweight today compared to 25 years ago. I have never had a weight problem in my life until now at the age of 43. I have struggled with my weight since I had a child in my late 30’s, and when I turned 40 weight has become a problem. My weight gain is totally my fault, I don’t work out, I drink more beer now than I ever have, I eat anything I want to whenever I want to without even a thought about my weight problem. It’s not until I see myself in pictures that have been taken that I then realize that I need to lose some weight. This is where obesity begins, consuming more food portions than your body needs. Americans are overweight due to the lack of exercise, taking in more calories than they burn off, and everyone is looking to blame someone or something else besides themselves for their obesity problem. Probably the 1st reason that women are more over weight today compared to 25 years ago is that more women have jobs today compared to 25 years ago when most women then were able to stay home, and spend 2 hours cooking meals from scratch, and the whole family sitting down to eat dinner together. Everyone is in such a hurry today that fast food and quick processed meals are taking over everyone’s life. By the time a women gets off work at 5 o’clock, goes home quickly changes clothes, gathers children in car and rush’s off to an after school game or activity, gets out around 7 o’clock there is no time left before bed to put together a well-balanced meal that would take an hour to cook.
