On February 22, 2010 President Obama had signed the healthcare overhaul bill. The Obama-Biden plan provides more security and stability to those who have health insurance. It will provide insurance to those who don’t. And it will lower the cost of health care for our families, our businesses, and most importantly our government. Under the President Obama plan, patients will be able to make health care decisions with their doctors, instead of being blocked by insurance company bureaucrats; an official in a government department. The Obama plan requires insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions so all the Americans regardless of their health status or history can get comprehensive benefits at fair and stable premiums. The Obama plan has created a new Small Business Health Tax Credit to help businesses provide affordable health insurance to their employees. The Obama plan has also prevented insurers from overcharging doctors for their malpractice insurance and invests in proven strategies to reduce preventable medical errors. The Obama plan is going reduce costs and save a typical American family up to $2,500. Obama said he will lower the drug cost by allowing safe medicines from other countries, increasing the use of generic brand names, and taking on drug companies that block cheaper generic medicines from the market. The Obama plan is requiring hospitals to collect and report health care cost and quality data. The plan requires the cost of illnesses for employers and their employees. The plan is to reform the insurance market to increase competitive by taking on anticompetitive activity that drives up prices without improving the quality of care. It will require coverage of preventive services, including cancer screenings, and increase state and local preparedness for terrorist attacks and natural
