Barack Obama’s “ The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream”, can be described as the political manifesto of a forward looking politician; who is dissatisfied with the status quo of the way politics is at present played in the United States of America. The book covers the recent personal and professional history of the author, Barack Obama; up to the time he relocated to Washington, DC, from his home in Chicago, Illinois; to take up his new assignment as a United States Senator. The major question which Barack Obama addressed addressed in this book, can be framed as follows: Is it possible to reorder our present acrimonious politics of perpetual confrontation between members of the two major political parties, Democrats and Republican; to one of cooperation and collaboration between the two parties, so that our country can benefit from the pooled wisdom from both sides of the divide, through consensus-building and bipartisanship in policy formulation and implementation? I believe that the intention of the author in writing this book is to sensitize the reading public in the United States, about the present unsavory state of affairs in our body politic. I believe also that the author wrote the book as a personal testimony as to the unlimited opportunities now available in both state and national political arenas, for people who in the past might not have had the opportunity to participate actively in formulation and implementation of public policy; as a result of their minority, ethnic, sexual and racial status. Barack Obama’s recent success in clinching the nomination of the Democratic Party as its next presidential candidate in this year’s national elections is a living testimony of that belief in the changing face of America, which he aptly captured in his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic Convention: “There is not a black American and
