These reasons must be considered and strategies developed to overcome them. Lack of confidence Adults can sometimes act in an aggressive way if they are unsure about what they are doing or lack confidence. We need to be sensitive and offer encouragement and support. To help a child with lack of confidence we need use praise, support and encouragement to try and overcome the problem and help them gain confidence.
Barriers to Effective Communication Language Barriers. Obviously, communication between people who do not speak the same language is a barrier. Even when communicating in the same language, accents and the terminology used may act as a barrier if it is not fully understood by the receiver. For example, a message that includes a lot of specialist jargon, abbreviations and/or regional expressions will not be understood by the receiver who is not familiar with the terminology used. It is also important to note that body language plays a large role in communication and may become a barrier, depending on a person’s perception.
Another factor is the person your speaking to and the level of understanding they have, and if they will be able to understand more technical and complicated words. Another factor would be the environment that you’re in, because if it’s too noisy you might not be able to understand what the other person is saying. Explain how people from different backgrounds may use and/or interpret communication methods in different ways. People from different backgrounds may communicate differently in ways such as languages, touch and using different gestures. Identify barriers to effective communication.
1.1 – People need to communicate for different reasons some of these things can be so they can ask for things, so they can tell somebody something for example how they are feeling, if there are things on their mind they can express what they are feeling. They will also need to communicate so they can sit and have a conversation with staff and fellow peers so they can make friends and share things with staff. 1.2 Communication can affect people in different ways, a person in the adult care system might find it difficult to express their feelings or thoughts and that may mean they will stay silent and communicate using pictures or word cards. Some people in the adult care system might not be able to read or write so they might hold back on talking to people or writing down things, some people might have also been through a very traumatic incident in their life and now they might find it very difficult to verbally communicate. 2.1 To find out the language needs and to find out how to communicate with people in your care you can find out by asking them, ask the key people, ask colleagues, read their files or you could get the relevant information from past homes or hospitals.
With some I can communicate verbally, however might have to keep words to a minimum and be concise in what I say to help with the processing levels the service user might have. Other clients have can’t communicate very well verbally, in these cases I often use pictures, timetables, social stories or even Makaton. This will ensure the service user understands what I am trying to say but also empower them to communicate and put there points
Individual’s self-esteem can be low, and their body language may be closed or negative, this can make communication difficult with an individual whom is distressed because you may not get any feed back from them, or you may not get a change to talk or be listened to to help them. The individual may even talk a different language or revert back to their mother tongue, which can cause a communication barrier. Also if the individual has a learning disability they may not understand how/why they are feeling, or may not know how to express it. 1.4 Explain how working with an individual who is distressed may impact on own well-being. Working with a person whom is distressed can also be distressing for the person caring and comforting

This can include directing groups of people, to achieve a common goal or ordering an individual ‘to’ or ‘not to’ carry out an act, perhaps for their own safety or the safety of others. ‘Social interaction’ allow us to interact as social beings with one and other.
In many communications, the message (what is said) may not be received exactly the way the sender intended. The personality can affect the way an individual communicates.
