The definition of physical abuse is an act of a person making contact with another person, with the intent of causing feelings of pain, injury, or other physical suffering or bodily harm. Some other terms used may be physical assault or physical violence and may also include sexual assault. Physical abuse can involve more than one abuser and more than one victim. 1.1B Define the following types of abuse, sexual abuse. The definition of sexual abuse is criminal sexual activity involving a victim below the age of sexual consent or incapable of giving sexual consent. It is also a crime to knowingly cause another to engage in an act of unwanted sexual act by force or by threat. 1.1C Define the following types of abuse, emotional/physiological. The definition of emotional/physiological abuse is characterized by a person subjecting or exposing another person to behaviour that may result in physiological trauma. It is a law that applies to individuals aged sixteen and over. Examples of people that may lack capacity are, people with dementia, learning disabilities, a brain injury, a mental health condition or someone who has had a stroke. Although someone may have one of these conditions it does not automatically mean they do not have capacity to make a specific decision. A person can lack capacity to make some decisions but still have capacity to make others. The mental capacity act allows a person to have an independent advocate who will support them on making decisions. The advocate will help the person to make the right decision that would be in their best
