This essay will identify the role nutrition plays in the health of an individual, the relationship between nutrition and the therapeutic outcomes of homeopathy as well as addressing nutritional status with diet and supplementation. A variety of foods can greatly support an individual’s health and wellbeing as people make decisions on what to eat several times a day. These food choices are usually based on social, cultural or behavioural motives, influencing their overall health and over time can prove to be beneficial; or they can be harmful. (Whitney et al, 2014 pp3) Nutrition needs to be tailored to the individual. The term “Health” is defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO, 2014) as “A state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” People make their food choices out of habit, for cultural reasons and in today’s busy society, through convenience and availability. (Whitney et al, 2014 pp3) Incorporating a balanced diet into your lifestyle is essential in maintaining health and wellbeing. Through eating a balanced diet we can combine the right amounts of nutrients, essential fats, vitamins and minerals our bodies need to function properly, thus promoting good health.
