I, like many others, assumed that someone that is thin, has healthy eating habits and that people who are overweight are lazy. Those presumptions changed when within my own life, I saw them to be untrue. I have a daughter that is 20 years old; 5’11” inches and eats nothing but fast food and junk food. She is very little (if any) fruits and vegetables, doesn’t exercise at all, and still weighs only 135 pounds. My other daughter, on the other hand, is 16 years old, 5’5”, eats primarily fruits, vegetables and protein, drinks plenty of water and exercises regularly.
The first nutrients listed are the ones that Americans typically get enough, or too much of. One should limit their intake of these nutrients. The second nutrients listed are the ones that Americans don’t typically get enough of, and should make an effort to get enough of them. These are dietary fibers and vitamins. The fifth key fact on a food label is the footnote, which tells you the percentage of daily value is based on a 2,000 calorie diet.
Whose diet provides the best opportunity for health and well-being? Which profile provides the best philosophy of health? Provide a rationale for your answers. The human nutrition is the tool for humans to have and obtain the materials that is very necessary to have a good and healthy life. Humans have always been able to survive for two to eight weeks without food; this will some time depend on the stored body fat, on the other hand survival without water is limited to two to four days this also depends on the amount of hydration that takes place.
Due to the lack of nutrients this diet provides and such low calorie intake, this diet can be used for no more than 6 weeks, with a 3 week break in between. Now that we have discussed where these two diets began, let’s discuss the diet plans. HCG and Slim-Fast have two very different diet plans. Slim-Fast offers shakes, snack packages, and meal bars while, The HCG diet consists of a hormone called Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. This hormone is something that already exists in men and women, but it is increased in pregnant women and is said to speed up your metabolism.
I can also conclude that I do not make the healthiest choices on the weekends. On Friday night I consumed an unhealthy quantity of chocolate and marshmallows, and on both Saturday and Sunday I ate only processed pizza at lunch. If these habits were continued for the rest of my life, this would be extremely unhealthy and would impact my life detrimentally. I was satisfied to observe that throughout the remainder of the week I was able to consume a balanced diet according to the Canadian Food Guide recommendation and in accordance to my high amounts of physical activity. To start off, the recommended weekly intake of milk and alternatives according to the Canadian Food Guide is approximately 24.5 servings; however, the results I have obtained throughout this week showed that my weekly intake of milk and alternatives was only 19, a difference of 5.5 servings!
Of course, if you ate five to six thousand calories a day you would gain a substantial amount of weight very quickly. To get the proper amount of nutrients and minerals without eating that much food you need to have the proper supplementation. I take a multivitamin daily to get the essential nutrients and minerals I am missing out on. I also take a joint support pill to combat all of the stress I put on my joints from the distance running I do. I also take an antioxidant pill to offset the lack of vegetables in my diet.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 68 percent of the people in our country are overweight. Half of that 68 percent, or 34 percent of our population is obese (Overweight Prevalence). Weight loss basically boils down to burning more calories that you eat (Staff, Counting Calories: Getting back to weight-loss basics), but this is easier said than done for some people. What do you do when you’ve tried diet after diet and nothing has worked? More and more people are turning to gastric bypass surgery.
My intake of all the nutrients was within the limits of the average comparison except I was a little low on my proteins by 5 grams and carbohydrates were low by over 100 grams. Watching what I eat could contribute to the lower levels of carbohydrates but a simple increase in whole grain would bring those levels up and also be a healthy choice. The proteins I consumed were completes proteins. The meats I ate were considered complete because they provide all the essential amino acids (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). Consuming the proper amount of macronutrients in your diet is essential for proper health and growth of your body.
This article discusses important information that most parents are not aware of. I have preferred 100% juice for my kids till now. This is a very good article for parents like me who don’t know the scientific facts behind obesity. This article is limited to just one solution to control obesity. This is very little information but very helpful in my essay on Child Health and Obesity.
Trevor McNabb 11/19/12 8-3 Science From doing the nutrition project, I learned many things. I learned how many calories I should be consuming each day and what most of those calories should be. I also learned how much of what food group I should be consuming and what those foods were. I found out how much physical activity I should be getting each day and what activity levels there are. I think that it is important to take a look and keep track of what you eat because it could help you lead a more healthy diet.
