Robert McKinney ACAD 1100 9 October 2013 Nursing and Engineering Nursing and engineering are both two very difficult majors. To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing a student must have complete a minimum of 120 semester hours , minimum overall grade point average of 2.0, and a minimum grade of a “C” in both English 1010 and English 1020. To qualify for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology you must obtain a 2.0 grade point average, a minimum grade of “C” in all engineering technology, and at least a “C” is required in English 3603. In nursing you have AND, BSN, LPN, RN, etc. In engineering you have electrical engineering, architectural engineering, biomedical engineering, etc. If you plan on being a successful nurse you probably will have to go to graduate school after your 4 undergraduate years, but if you want to be successful in engineering you do not have to go to graduate school, that decision is optional. The nursing field is very competitive and only about one out of every three people who apply to the graduate school get accepted. In engineering you mainly have to take math and science courses because that’s what they deal with mostly and in nursing you have to take multiple types of courses. After graduating from nursing school, one usually becomes a medical assistant or works with little kids. After graduating college and getting an engineering degree, one usually finds a job for a company or a private business. After attending the Discovery Your Major Day I am more interested in both the nursing and the engineering major. I’ve always been very fascinated by both of the majors but after attending the DYMD I learned a lot of things that I didn’t know and was very informative. My mother is a Registered Nurse and my uncle is Electrical Engineer and I learned some things that they haven’t even told me. Some of
