Malala Yousafzai a promising 13 year old girl from Pakistan who fought for the right for her education especially for girls, she alone raised her voice through international and national media for girls education during the deadliest times in Swat Valley. In which girls were not only banned from attending schools and colleges however they were destroyed as well, over 800 schools for girls were closed down and destroyed. Malala wrote a diary by the name of ‘Gul Makai’ to the BBC News to record her frustrations with the restrictive community especially concerning the limits of female education. Malala Yousafzai is an inspiring icon for the right of children- in particular that of girls- to education. Malala never gave up she was not going to hide in fear and without education for the rest of her life she wanted to take a stand fight for all the girls in Swat Valley, Malala quoted “The cannot stop me; I will get my education whether it is in home, school, or any place.” She had many obstacles to face, she was receiving death threats towards her and her family, if she continued to fight for the right that girls should receive education one of her family member or herself will end up dead.
The first aspect that made this commercial a success was the fact that, timing is everything. The season of the year, the channel, the period, it all added up to make millions. The general group this commercial was trying to catch the eyes of were girls between the ages of thirteen to nineteen. I am nineteen and it caught my eyes big time. The commercial aired during a showing of Teen Mom 2 on MTV
Working-class mums lacked confidence in education/school due to their own negative experiences in school. Cater & Coleman (2006) studied the risk of becoming a teenage mother and found it was 10 times higher for a girl from an unskilled family background compared with a professional/middle-class background. Many of the mothers had had teenage mothers themselves. They believed that having a baby young would give them a new identity and purpose. Education influences social class identity by the type of school a child attends.
Many of these women and young girls were trying to emulate her look at the time, which considering her measurements of 39-18-33, was virtually impossible. A woman by the name of Cindy Jackson however has spent her entire life trying to achieve a “Barbie look,” she’s been through more than twenty operations trying to achieve this (Semansky 1). Piercy however realized that for girls of the African American, Asian, Native American, Hispanic, and any other race besides the Caucasian this would be nearly impossible. They could never look “perfect” in the eyes of the society we live in, and so she began to write this poem. The personal experiences of Piercy also contribute to the outlook on how she wrote this poem.
Coco Chanel Biography Coco Chanel was the first fashion designer to make it on Time magazine’s “List of 100 Most Important People” and was one of the most successful designers ever, but when she was young, she struggled with a terrible childhood. She was born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel in August 19, 1883 in Saumur, France. Her mother died of tuberculosis when Coco was only 6 years old and her father abandoned her and her 2 sisters and put them into orphanages. She was first taught how to sew by nuns there. Chanel had a small singing career before she opened her first Paris hat shop in 1910.
Through his narrative, Richard Rodríguez makes a convincing argument against the implementation of affirmative action, even as one who stood to benefit from the program. When he was very young, Richard Rodríguez immigrated to the United States with his family to live in a predominantly white-Anglo, middle class neighborhood in Sacramento, California. Rodríguez’s parents were poor, but what money they could scrape together they used to send their children to the local Roman Catholic elementary school, Sacred Heart. Rodríguez knew less than 50 words of English at the start of his attendance in school, leading him to be introverted and shy in class. He rarely spoke, and finally, after 6 months had passed with no improvement, the nuns from his school came to his home, asking his parents to speak English with their children around the house.
Should companies offer on-site childcare facilities to their employees? Most parents find juggling with work and children stressful, not to mention the guilt trip of leaving babies and small children in a nursery environment for sometimes long periods during the day (Heath, 2012). These days there are a lot of very active mothers who want to work and still have a chance to take care of their family (Burgoine, 2012). After having children, many families are faced with the decision to either put the child in daycare and return to work or stay at home and raise the child. Combining family life and work life is an ongoing struggle for new parents but it doesn’t have to be that way if companies would offer on-site childcare facilities.
American schools should offer more language choices to help their students whose parents’ English is as a second language communicate with parents. Owning to their responsible for their families, parents have to work many hours a day; consequently, they do not have the chance to teach or use their first language with their children. In addition, many different languages are used in the United State daily. Having three children and coming to United State from Vietnam 20 years ago, my friend, Huynh, had to work 10-13 hours a day until her children graduated high school. She rarely had the chance to talk to her children, so her children almost did not learn Vietnamese from her.
82, I learned how to speak English very fast. When I was in elementary school I was always the fat kid the other kids used to tease because of my weight. I played it off like I didn’t care but deep down it hurt my feelings. I was always the troublemaker my mother had to come to my school every year because I always misbehaved in school. The biggest thing that happened in elementary school was one day after school I was in the 5th grade my mom gave me the news that my uncle had died.
Most people of the 19th century raised concern for many women working. They claimed that women should be at home tending to their children and husband, because working meant they were taking a job opportunity away from their husbands. The earliest and most effective child labor law that was passed was in 1833. It stated that no child under 9 years old was allowed to work in factories. Children from ages 9-13 were not allowed to work more than 12 hours a day or 48 hours a week.
