If employment is not provided, an unemployment allowance has to be paid. Under this act, NREGS is a “demand driven” program and employment is to be provided to eligible workers on demand, within 15 days. The scheme involves four steps of modus operandi 1) Registration 2) Verification 3) Issuing Job Cards 4) Application A sum of Rupee 40,000 crore per year has been devised for NREGS scheme out of which 10% of the money will be provided by the respective state governments.
