Nova Scotia should join Confederation

Nova Scotia Good morning fellow delegates. My name is William Alexander Henry. The colony I am representing is Nova Scotia. I assert that Nova Scotia should join Confederation because Nova Scotia, as a colony, would be more prosperous politically, socially, economically, and also military-wise, through this union. Joining Confederation would mean that it would have greater links to more trading partners, be able to adopt a more stable political system, have more links socially to the other colonies, and also acquire more soldiers to evenly defend the colonies. If Nova Scotia was to join Confederation, then it would adopt a new form of government, known as “Federalization”. Federalization would mean that every colony would follow a structure of government that includes Rep. by Pop., and a central government. Representation by Population means that each district in a colony would elect a delegate, or a representative. These delegates would then represent their district’s needs and beliefs, attending meetings and such to discuss these. A central government is a form of government where one government takes on the more important matters of the country, but some political power is also given to the local governments of a city or town. This form of government also erases the need to worry about political deadlocks. The railway link and the union would force Nova Scotia to mix in with people of different cultures, so there would be a higher chance of the Nova Scotians to take on another religion or marry another ethnicity. An intercontinental railway would be built, connecting Nova Scotia with the rest of the Canadas, if Nova Scotia joined Confederation. The intercontinental railway would be beneficial to Nova Scotia not only because the railway could transport a lot of people, but also because cargo for trade could also be boarded.
