To Vaccinate or Not to Vaccinate Vaccinations are given to people to prevent diseases and other illnesses. Times have progressed to children given the vaccinations as well; however, more and more parents aren’t allowing for it to happen. From a parent’s perspective, it can be interpreted that they fear ‘fatal side effects’. On the other hand, I feel that there is not much of a risk towards the vaccinations; children should get their vaccinations in order to save them. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (ProCons.org, 2015 Page 1), most childhood vaccines are 90%-99% effecting in preventing diseases; at least 2.5 million children are saved every year. Regardless of any personal doubt, the organizations are a great way to convince me otherwise. I’m also assured of the fact that the vaccinations are safe in their amounts. Ingredients, such as thimerosal, formaldehyde, and aluminum, can be harmful in large doses but they are not used in harmful quantities in vaccines. Children are exposed to more aluminum in breast milk and infant formula than they are exposed to in vaccines (Kelley King Heyworth, "Vaccines: The Reality behind the Debate," www.parents.com, June 14, 2014.) Vaccinations also protect everyone as a whole more than just individually. If majority of a community have their vaccinations, it will be less likely for an outbreak of a particular disease (ProCons.org, 2015 Page 1.) Children and adults who cannot be vaccinated due to age, poor health (who are immune-compromised or undergoing chemotherapy, for example), or other reasons rely on herd immunity to prevent contraction of vaccine-preventable diseases (Steven L.
