------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- Northern Lights Purpose Statement: A northern light, which is also, called the “Aurora”; I believe is as important as any other matter that revolves around us for it to be introduced to the world. Introduction: Northern lights are natural lights that light up at night and can only be seen in low temperature countries, mainly in the south and north poles. Shaped like a cloud with colorful rays surrounding, they call it the dancing sky because of its magnificent movements. Magical lights with glowing colors that differs from region to region, each one of them has a breathtaking view. Each poles name the lights differently. In the Northern side it is known as the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights, and the Southern side it is known as the Aurora Australis or Southern Lights. Body: There are a few main points that make northern lights very interesting and fascinating. One of them is: - 1) The lights of the Aurora are the interactions between the sun and earth. This is a process that we expect occurring around other stars and galaxies. a. The Aurora happens in several cities like Canada, Fairbanks, Alaska, Lapland and Norway, in a ring-shaped region around the North and South Pole. i. Happens 240 days a year. ii. When it happens in summer, Fairbanks enjoys 24 hours of sunlight. b. The Aurora happens all year round, however the image of the Aurora in winter is stronger. iii. Spring months of January to April are the best months to visualize the aurora. iv. Best time is 1:30am daylight saving time in Alaska’s time zone.
