Exercise 1.1 Specific ways I need to change to be a more helpful person is to always look for the other person first and not just for myself. I have a tendency to put myself first instead of others and I really need to work on this quality. I have great listening skills and make eye contact but I don’t move around when I talk so I feel that would make me a more helpful person also because they would not be bored. Exercise 1.2 If I saw a professional with these labels I would think great they were except for the shrink because might make you think down on yourself instead of there to help you with your problems. These people are all very special and help to provide help in so many ways to help to get a job, a home, medical assistance, to just help with everyday living.

These are the barriers that I am likely to face: • Not enough funding to access training • Training courses being cancelled • Not enough time • Language barriers • Some learners think they know it all so don’t understand why they have to do refresher training • Social and personal barriers, where some people cannot attend due to not having child care or appointments may clash with training • Health issues. He needs to work on being more considerate. When he sends out emails that berates his subordinates he is disregarding his employee’s feelings. The emails he sends out are harsh and accusatory, such as asking “Why aren’t you as committed to this project as I am?” (Daft, 2011, p.129) This tone is offensive and does not work towards a solution to the issue. This is called relationship building. Without this, we find people avoid others due to the fact that they do not get along or are suspicious of one another. Positive relationships are always very important and necessary for us to encourage this. Challenges: How they can make you a better person Every day we are faced with challenges we must overcome, some challenges we face are harder than others and we may require help to break through the barriers we face. If we do not succeed with the challenges that are thrown at us, then we do not grow as an individual. With Dr. Malcolm Sayer in the movie Awakenings, he has trouble with people. At first Dr. Sayer cannot face any challenge that requires him to interact with people unless it involves the things he is passionate about, such as work. Dr. Sayer seems to be a lonely man with severe social anxiety, he would much rather be at home reading or studying his plants than interacting with people.
Barriers come in many forms, such as when key persons are doing observations and planning. The parents may lack in confidence to give any suggestions or feel that their contribution isn’t worth making at all; they may also not want to get involved in this. However practitioner should let the parents of the child take charge on the suggestion making, instead of the practitioners taking charge. This allows the parents to feel valued and respect being given such an important role, building the parents confidence as their suggestions have be taken into
Making it on your own At times people tend to work well while they are under pressure. To others they simply must be under pressure to get work done and give their full effort. In her article In Praise of the F Word, Mary Sherry argues “Flunking as a regular policy has just as much merit today as it did two generations ago. We must review the threat of flunking and see it as it really is- a positive teaching too.” By making it clear to students that flunking can definitely be a result of them not putting in the time and effort in assuring they pass their class will make them more determined to learn and earn their good grades, it will also help stop those students who choose not to even try in their classes. We’ll act how we expect other people to act, and in doing so we aren’t true to ourselves. Low self-esteem can lead to anxiety attacks. In large group settings, we may believe that everyone is focused on ourselves. This makes it impossible to relax and easier to make mistakes. (Perera).
